You set a goal, Weight Loss. You have scoured the internet looking for every tip and trick to help you reach it. You’ve tried many diets, spent thousands of dollars, counted calories and even eaten food you hated.
The Good News: You lost the weight!! Congratulations!
The Bad News: You had to do it, over and over and over again.
As a Nutritionist, having spent thousands of hours with weight loss clients, I can tell you that you are in good company. Everyone seems to think that regardless of “How” they lose weight, when they meet their goal; they will be able to maintain it.
TRUTH: They (yes I’m talking to you) are WRONG
Countless studies have shown that over 80% of people who lose weight will regain it within two years and that number can go as high as 95% after five years.
Here is what I tell my clients: “If you start a “diet” that you can not do for the rest of your life, you have already failed”!
The most important part about losing weight is HOW you go about it. Losing weight for the sake of “weight loss” without taking into consideration your health is a huge mistake. Can you eat three twinkies a day and lose weight? YES. Can you drink two “seemingly” healthy premade smoothies a day containing zero live enzymes and phytochemicals and lose weight? YES. Can you eat boxed or frozen meals and lose weight? YES
But you will be Missing the MAGIC! The whole point of weight loss is greater HEALTH and VITALITY!
Many people may tell you that losing weight is a simple calculation of “eating fewer calories and exercising more, but, in fact, this is not entirely true. Not all calories are created equal! Eating nutrient dense food, which is how I refer to food that is packed with lots of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and disease-fighting phytochemicals is key to weight loss and optimal health!
Although there are many reasons why, the one my clients find most interesting is how eating nutrient dense food curbs hunger!!! Our body makes millions of cells every single minute, but the only way to get the material for those cells is through the food you eat. If you eat meals that are processed, fried, microwaved or low in fruits and vegetables your body will not have the materials it needs to make the cells it requires and, therefore, will send out a “craving” for yet more food!
This is one of the reasons we have such a huge epidemic of obesity in North America; we are over-fed and undernourished.
My mission is to help educate you about nutrition. Education is power! Once you have the knowledge, nobody can take it from you!
As always I’m here for your comments and questions! Have you been on multiple diets only to have to start from scratch each time? Share your story!
